Duality of a willing X Men

What is the duality of a willing human subject to become part animal? An accepting animal to become first part human?

So the idea of having attributes of animals is pretty scary. Hard to think anyone would willingly do so. So how do you get around this? You make the first human with animal traits by making animals 50% human. Then when you really do have half and half you conveniently call the animal with human genes a Human with animal genes.
