A definition of immortality: the condition of not being susceptible to death or aging.
Or in my own words because it suits this post, - Always alive, or living with no end.
So what is the duality nature of immortality? This one is simple right, its death or mortal. Or is the duality of immortality - never alive or never living (as it suits this post and posts to come).
I could come up with several definitions of never living because “living” implies a lot of subjective associations. What will “living” be like when science finally brings us immortality? Does one need quality of life to be immortal. What is the point of immortality without quality? One could argue that someone who has no dreams or aspirations has no quality of life and is therefore dead to the world.
20 some years ago I wrote in my journal that when you stopped dreaming you die and that heaven may be a state of mind rather than a place. If I die happy and contented will that be heaven. If I die with hatred and regret will that be hell. What would one be like if they were immortal with no quality of life? I am not sure but I would sure hope for eventual death.
If you asked a 100 people aged 30 + whether they wanted to be immortal or not my guess is that only 10 would want to be immortal. I am one of those 10. Being immortal in heaven does not count here by the way. Personally I wonder what people will do in heaven (if it exists) that will provide them with quality to their immortality.
Yes I believe immortality is coming in my lifetime as long as the government doesn't keep us from it. After all they should keep immortality from us. We have too many people on the planet already.

Duality of the light bulb
So when can a light bulb have duality you ask. A light bulb can have duality when it both saves the planet and hurts the planet.
Ok to believe this you have to believe only two things.
1. that compact fluorescent save the planet due using less energy. Or more simply put, that they are a green product.
2. That the mercury in these bulbs is harmful.
How many people think we should have laws on whether we should be forced to buy green products.
Here is an article from the UK on such a law:
Revolt! Robbed of their right to buy traditional light bulbs, millions are clearing shelves of last supplies

Forced spirituality
I absolutely laughed at the article I have linked here. I could really go to town at the implications or spin offs from this information. The one that makes me laugh the most is that with this knowledge we may one day control a persons spirituality.
Duality theme. What is the opposite of spiritualty? The absence of spiritualy, atheism,...
Synopsis from linked article
New research provides fascinating insight into brain changes that might underlie alterations in spiritual and religious attitudes. The study, published by Cell Press in the February 11 issue of the journal Neuron, explores the neural basis of spirituality by studying patients before and after surgery to remove a brain tumor.

Robotics and job loss
I posted a few videos on robotics. I was thinking the other day that maybe surrogates may be the way to go in the future. Instead of the Matrix where we provide power to the machines we actually provide power and consciousness to the machines. I wonder if they would be as efficient though once we added the human element to it.
I love the first one. It surely makes robotics more human

Duality of color
When is green not green. I saw this on a gas guzling suburban and laughed.
Dont get me wrong I think green products are great. But it did make me laugh.

I dont want to get in trouble for posting a picture that is not mine. So here is a link to where I got it. That way the artist or company who created it can possibly receive value for its product

Free Power eventually?
I remember in high school I read an article about government’s private war with scientists that know too much. One famous battle which I will not get into is with the scientist Nikola Tesla who claimed he could pull electricity out of the atmosphere.
What people don't think about is how such a technology could ruin the economy. Think of how many jobs would be lost if energy was now free. In order to save the economy the government would be forced to charge for the atmosphere and only allow the power companies access. In this case however we would still lose jobs from the fuel industry. It’s a no win scenario unless you change many things which few ever think about.
So when something comes around that only makes things more efficient it has less chance of being squashed by government and business. The video below shows such a breakthrough. It provides minimal job loss. And even though we may all have this in our home we will still need some fuel to run it.
Business will compensate by:
Reducing their headcount since the demand for fuel is lower.
Raising fuel costs to compensate for any other loss of profit.
Public will not benefit as the price of fuel will increase.
If you are concerned about the environment then this is a win / win scenario.
So what is the opposite of job loss anyway? It is job creation, socialism or something else?
One has to wonder with all the job loss coming why our work week has not been reduced to 20 hours a week.

A discussion on duality
I had started writing a very complex piece on duality and decided that if anyone ever starts reading this I would first need to discuss the term duality for a few days.
Webster online has nothing on duality so here is their definition of dualism
1 : a theory that considers reality to consist of two irreducible elements or modes
2 : the quality or state of being dual or of having a dual nature
3 a : a doctrine that the universe is under the dominion of two opposing principles one of which is good and the other evil b : a view of human beings as constituted of two irreducible elements (as matter and spirit)
It is my opinion that duality makes us who we are. If good and evil did not exist then what would we be? Sheep come to mind here. But so do wolves if you can see them as acting on instincts alone.
We would not know goodness without the existence of badness. We would not know morals without the absence of morals. We would not be able to judge our worth without judging others. We would not judge others if we could not judge ourselves. We could not be in control if we did not know what it was to be out of control. We could not be free and in control without the duality of being controlled by others. We could not question ourselves without the ability to question others. We could not be ambitious without also the ability to be lazy.
It all adds up to the fact that we could not think without the existence of duality. Where did this duality come from?

Cool machine
When I walk into the grocery store I find it amazing how fast the self checkout lines seem to be expanding. What I really want to know is:
How many people are replaced by 6 self checkout machines? Our store has 1 attendant for 12 self checkouts now.
How much time does a self checkout save people? What do people do with that extra time?
Do any of the people who use the self checkouts know of any family members or friends that are unemployed? Do any of the people who use them have teenagers who can’t get a job?
My wife the other day actually mentioned this to one of the checkers (10 items). The checker actually thanked my wife.
Next question: Do all the checkers really know this about self checkout? Has a checker ever mentioned this to their family and friends? If so, I think the word would be out and someone would have suggested a boycott of self checkout long ago. Or maybe the media could run a spot on technologies impact on unemployment.
Sorry for being so illogical here I finally see the errors in my logic. Duality got in the way of my thinking so let me speculate what really goes through the minds of people at a self checkout:
People don’t want a boycott on self checkout because maybe they are thinking:
Hmm, True my (fill in the blank here) lost their job but if I boycott self checkout then it will actually impact me hugely. Some people might think that hiring an extra person would cut into the profits of the store but actually what will happen is that the store will have to raise prices on all my groceries to cover the extra expense. And I agree the store profits should not be lowered because the store is important and provides a valuable service of bringing groceries so close to my home which saves me time.
Does anyone see duality within the duality of that last paragraph?
On a final note I leave with you a link to the future in building our homes
And in case your wondering, yes it can be scaled up to build any type of building.

Microwaves
So I come across some information click here to see information on how microwaving water killed plants and immediately jumped on the bandwagon to reduce my usage of the microwave.
I find it amazing how much trust we place in the printed word. When face to face with someone we immediatley use our duality skills and judge whether something is true or false.
Well if you try hard enough you can always find someone to dispute any fact.
This link from snopes says the above test is junk scienceSnope says junk science

Duality Discussion
Duality is by far the most incredible creation whether you believe in God or not. Consciousness helps us live in fear of duality or helps in embracing duality.
Twenty years ago I was a philosopher out of high school and was understood by very few. This is the beginning of my re-awakening as a thinker which oddly started when someone told me the world was ending in 2012.
In the sense of duality I was tempted to ask him what if it was in fact also the beginning of the world? It would appear to me that there is an exactly 50 - 50 split in the number of endings and beginnings in this universe. I suppose if God created the earth (beginning) I suppose there could be a true ending. But if that is true then its a beginning of some other sort if you believe in a heaven.
The blog I start today is really just a sort of diary in my search for knowledge. I actually started thinking again 5/1/2009 and have saved my links and notes and just now have I decided to commit them to a blog.

Duality in Language I
Not sure who wrote this or came up with this but liked it
A group of frogs were traveling through the woods, and two of them fell into a deep pit. All the other frogs gathered around the pit. When they saw how deep the pit was, they told the two frogs that they were as good as dead.... The two frogs ignored the comments and tried to jump up out of the pit with all of their might. The other frogs kept telling them to stop, that they were as good as dead.
Finally, one of the frogs took heed to what the other frogs were saying and gave up. He fell down and died. The other frog continued to jump as hard as he could. Once again, the crowd of frogs yelled at him to stop the pain and just die. He jumped even harder and finally made it out.
When he got out, the other frogs said, "Didn't you hear us?"
The frog explained to them that he was hard of hearing and thought they were cheering him on the whole time.
This story teaches two lessons:
1. There is power of life and death in the tongue. An encouraging word to someone who is down can lift them up and help them make it through the day.
2. A destructive word to someone who is down can be what it takes to kill them. Be careful of what you say. Speak life to those who cross your path.
It's sometimes hard to understand that an encouraging word can go such a long way.
